The
Spiritual Gift Mercy
This
gift of Mercy
is that which allows us to bask in the eternal sunshine of Gods love.
This is despite whatever we may have done or said in the past. When we
come and ask for forgiveness we live un-condemned. We are delivered and
freed from the bonds of this world. Developing Mercy begins when we
accept that God first had Mercy on us. This knowing is the beginning of
spiritual maturity in God. Because we have been granted a pardon we are
free to soak up the sunshine of life. Like the wheat in the field we
then grow together in joy and hope. In fact this ability to show Mercy
is what will distinguish you from others. Others who judge harshly and
don't show Mercy will attract the same in return.
One can understand those who don't show Mercy but have not known of the
joys and wonders of Gods glorious love. Those who have not known Gods
love are Biblicaly referred to as the weeds. We are told in the scriptures
to let the weeds grow along-side us Wheaties in the field until
maturity. This is because It's not possible to distinguish between the
wheat and the weeds of the field in the early stages. We don't know one
from the other. Really to try to tell the weeds from the wheat at this
early stage is a form of judgment. A form of judgment that comes too
early is pre-judge-ment. Now you aren't prejudice are you. This is
exactly the message the scriptures are getting at. We are to hold high
expectations for all those around us because we don't know what will
become of them. We can't tell from the externals that we see.
Then better you concentrate on your own growth and let others do the
same. Grow and let grow. Let he is without sin amongst you cast the
first stone. If that is you you may as well spread your wings and start
flying around the room now. I am not sure why you are reading this
because you are an Angel. If you are however like the rest of us you
will know the need for Mercy from imperfection. If the perfect Christ
showed Mercy than it is not above you and I. Since we have been given
the Mercy to live out our days in this perfect sunshine in his grace we
should extend that grace to others. When you next look at the plant
beside you see the wheat in them and not the weed. Because as a humble
head of wheat it is not for you to know.
The prophet David was good at
this. Consider how
much patience he had with Saul in the scriptures below - despite Saul's
desperation to kill him he had the patience and Mercy of the wheat in
the field.
1 Samuel 24:10-13
10You can see for yourself that the LORD gave me the chance to catch
you in the cave today. Some of my men wanted to kill you, but I
wouldn't let them do it. I told them, "I will not harm the LORD's
chosen king!" 11Your Majesty, look at what I'm holding. You can see
that it's a piece of your robe. If I could cut off a piece of your
robe, I could have killed you. But I let you live, and that should
prove I'm not trying to harm you or to rebel. I haven't done anything
to you, and yet you keep trying to ambush and kill me.
12I'll let the LORD decide which one of
us has done
right. I pray that the LORD will punish you for what you're doing to
me, but I won't do anything to you. 13An old proverb says, "Only evil
people do evil things," and so I won't harm you.
Let God judge you he says. In doing he recognizes life in more than
mere appearances and surfaces. Life has a deeper aspect and that aspect
is the spiritual aspect. That spiritual journey is our focus and you
are invited to look further through these pages.
